Foliage: Fine, drooping thin green branchlets (articles) with tiny scale-like teeth arranged in whorls; creates a feathery, sheoak, like appearance.
Flowers: Separate male and female plants; male catkins (spikes) 15–60 mm long; female plants produce small clusters of woody cone-like fruit.
Fruit: Cylindrical cones (10–20 mm long) containing winged seeds (samaras) 3–5 mm long.

Habitat & Tolerance: Thrives in moist, often saline or brackish sites—swamps, creek banks, salt lake edges; highly tolerant of waterlogging and salinity.
Distribution: Native to southern mainland Australia—common in southwest Western Australia; less common and more threatened in NSW and Victoria.
Ecological Value: Excellent for land rehabilitation, erosion control, salt-affected soil stabilization, and urban plantings (salt-tolerant).
Propagation & Regeneration: Propagates from seed or via root suckering; resilient and regenerates readily after disturbance.
